The Firewire Baked Potato is a performance “groveler” surfboard designed by Dan Mann. It is an evolution of the Sweet Potato, featuring a slightly pulled-in nose and thinned rails to improve rail-to-rail transitions. Specifically designed for small, weak, and flat waves (knee to chest-high) where it generates high speed. The high volume and flat rocker make it exceptionally easy to paddle and catch waves early.

The Firewire Baked Potato is a performance “groveler” surfboard designed by Dan Mann. It is an evolution of the Sweet Potato, featuring a slightly pulled-in nose and thinned rails to improve rail-to-rail transitions.

Key Specifications & Features

  • Target Conditions: Specifically designed for small, weak, and flat waves (knee to chest-high) where it generates high speed.
  • Bottom Contour: Features aggressive double concaves and a “V-spline” through the center to increase maneuverability despite its wide outline.
  • Fin Setup: Typically ridden as a quad, with fin boxes set further back and closer to the rails for better hold in turns.
Performance & Usage
  • Paddling: The high volume and flat rocker make it exceptionally easy to paddle and catch waves early.
  • Maneuverability: While wide, the tapered rails and diamond tail allow for responsive turning.
  • Evolution: Firewire later released the Twice Baked, which features a thinned-out squash tail for more versatility in slightly steeper waves.
